It's been extremely hot the last couple of days here and my tank has gone up to 86 degrees F.

Looking for the best way to pull the temp down without stress or shock.

I have cherry shrimp, black neons, half beaks and honey gourami's. Also a planted tank if that info is needed.

I would turn the heater down a couple of clicks. you could place an electric fan so it blows air over the top of the tank. Or do coldish water changes. Or open windows and try to get a breeze going through the room

Turning off the heater is not going to help as the thermostat will keep it off untill the air temperature drops.

Lighting can however raise the temp, so if u have any lighting turn it off for most of the day and then only use when u want it.

For my larger tanks, I freeze a whole water bottle and just float that in there. It'll melt slower because its one giant ice mass, and my fish don't seem to mind at all. Or you can put the ice in the filter area, so again, it won't directly hit the fish.

The fan trick works for my loaches, plus it adds a little extra water movement so should help a small amount with any oxygen issues created by the heat.
Plus it'll do it slowly :good:
