Hi, I've found a tank I'm thinking of buying but it doesn't come with a lid and i think it's pretty wierd dimensions - the guy says it's 36.5x15.5x22.5!!! inches that is!?

does anyone know where/if i could get a lid to fit that size tank!?

and any potential ideas for stocking would be great - i was thinking maybe a pair of angels and some rainbows - would that fit!?

Thanks

You could always make one... Its an odd dimension to buy really.

I made one for my 4ft tank, looks quite nice too. Just some wood screws and hinges really. I bought the plastic condensation tray for £4 from my LFS. I think the whole lid cost about £11 to make.

hmm - well I'm not so good at practical things - but if you wouldnt mind telling me how to go about it i could give it a shot!!

The guy says it comes with a condensation tray - um ..... whats a condensation tray?? lol

thanks

Condensation tray sits on the top of the aquarium and helps stop evapouration :) Not essential but nice to have one.

Might be worth checking in the DIY section, I know theres a few DIY Hood howtos in there :)

its not really essential i would say. 2 of my tanks dont have them. really depends on the fishes you keep.

Fished you keep and the type of lights really....I dont think they look as nice without a lid.

You could just get the arcadia light bar and some condensation trays

thanks spooky - i did have a look in the DIY section - it all looked a bit complicated to be honest! poor feeble woman that i am! LOL! I think maybe I'll smile sweetly at my stepdad and see if he'l help! :D

I don't think that with the fish I'm planning a lid would necessarily be essential but at the same time i do think they look nicer. Plus the tank's going to be in my bedroom and i have horrible visions of finding a dried up fish in my bed if i dont have a lid! lol

Thanks guys!

You could always get some glass or plexiglass cut to specific dimensions at a local home improvement shop. ^_^ Make sure that it will be compatible with your light set up first though. One thing I have found handy is the using stiff plastic that can be cut by scissors/knife to more closely fit around filters, etc for part of the cover towards the back.

lol - dried up fish  Im sure they wouldnt...lol they probably will. I know my sharks and danios can jump a fair bit.

Like I said - mine took me about half a day to make, 4 sides, a centre piece for lights to be screwed to and then 2 lids, 1 large at the front and a smaller at the back with some little handles that look poo  but it works.

One thing that does happen without a lid is hairs and stuff on the surface though, when your drying your hair etc.

so ... basically if i dont get a lid I'll have a tank full of hair and a bed full of fish!!! LOL! lovely as I'm sure that would be, i think I'm definately going for the lid option!!

I'll have a look at lights and wood and stuff this weekend and see what i can botch together! If you're lucky I might even post a pic when it's all finished - just so you can all mock my complete lack of skill! :D

thanks for all the advice guys!
