Tank/fish Of The Month Cpmpetition

A previous TOTM/FOTM competition in the past was marred by a fake entry. Some members have requested that the competition be reinstated. This poll is started to simply generate information. SH

I understand that there has always been a lot of interest in bringing this back but I don't think it will work for the same reasons it didn't before. The only way I think it could work is if a separate panel chose the winners so that it doesn't become a popularity contest. Special care would also have to be taken to make sure the tanks/fish submitted indeed were owned by the member.

It should be a bit of harmless fun, if people are so pathetic that they have to cheat just to look good on the internet then they seriously need to re-think their lifes!

i think mod's should pick the tanks for voting, members vote BUT you have to have a certain amount of posts to vote (or been here longer than X amount of days) this could be done by setting creating a new section and setting the permissions to allow this.

Post count could just lead to people spamming to get their count up in order to vote. Also, I don't think you can limit who could vote based on how long they have been a member as probably well over half of our most active members are relatively new.

This may be a bit complicated but here's my idea:

What about if a seperate board was set up for tank of the month, people submit their tanks and/or fish, they are nominated by members somehow in some sort of poll, then the mods could pick a winner.

Or

You could have several different catagories for the winners e.g. best planted tank, best marine set-up, best livebearer and so-on. The winners from the month before would then become the judges. After nominations (which could be done as above), pictures would then be sent to the judges.

Just an idea.

well just ban the spammers, simple

doesnt have to be a high post count say 50 - 100. Fair enough if some one is really sad enough to set up another account ect then so be it but at least most of the muppets wont be able to do it.

On another non fish related forum i goto to sell items you need to have 50 posts or more and been there fore over 60 days. It works really well. Throw in a few mods to keep an eye on things and bobs your uncle! maybe get some undercover mods to keep an eye on things?

As was said by another poster on the suggestions board, there would be a lot of us who would never enter because our tanks just aren't pretty. I have 6ft of open water and a few big plecs laying around on the bottom under bits of wood. No one's gonna pay money to come see that

I'm not vehemently against it, but I wouldn't take part in voting or entering. It would be something that didn't really interest me.

I'd hate to see any more fights about it if it got going again though.

Yes bring it back, nominations to be made by the owner (a photo of the tank/fish including a piece of paper with a random number written on it circumnavigates the plagiarism issue), winners decided by poll.

It should be remembered that it is just a bit of fun. Anyone seriously worried about either winning or losing, needs to get a life.

I am unsure whether or not I really want this to come about again, but I do have an opinion on what should happen if it did come back.

Tanks should be chosen via members, similar in fashion as the "Pet of the Month" in the other pet forum. Once nominated, the member whose tank was chosen should PM a mod with the picture and tank stats. Once entries have been submitted, the mods should be the one to choose the winner. IMO, the mods are all very diverse in their tank design and they are not biased towards one type of tank or another, so I think their opinion would be best.

Obviously, this would only work if mods are up to the challenge.
