Quick querie,

I'm going to set up a 20 gal. tank and was wondering if it is safe to spray paint the back of the tank black?

I would paint with a roller or brush rather than spray paint.
the trouble with spraying is the fine particles get everywhere, at least with a brush or roller
you have some degree of control.

i guess you meen the back if so yes but i woudnt think so if it was in the tank HTH

Provided you covered the inside and rinsed it a couple of times after you sprayed it, I don't see much of a problem. I may be wrong tho. I have a black background - nice with the white gravel and black and white angels. In hindsight though I would have gone with a deep blue. Seems much more natural and aesthetically pleasing.

Thanks peoples,

Using a brush or roller seems like the more sensible option.

Does any1 have any idea what sort of paint I could use? Do you think it would last long? (Waterproof?)

May just get some really dark laminated paper or something like that although I think paint would look better.

Edit: (Not looking to paint the inside though!!!)

gloss or eggshell paint is best.
whatever you use don't use emulsion, it washes off when water gets spilt on it and will leave streaks.

black plastic bin liner will have the same effect with the advantage of being really easy to remove if you want to change it.

I use posterboard, also very cheap and removable. :good:

Paper gets wet and starts to look crappy. I would paint the outside back of the tank black with laytex paint.
