When i get my new tank very shortly i would like to add some swordtails just would like to know:-

How big do they get?
what sort of ratio should i get in relation to males to females?
What size tank do they prefer?
Are they easy to keep with guppies and platies?

Excluding tail about 2inches and the tail and its extension can be up to one inch.

Ratio same as other livebearers 2 or three females for every male.

Swordtails do well in any tank bigger than 10 gallons.

Very easy to keep just like guppies and platies, they will breed with the platies giving you platails :D the young will appear to be platies maybe even the colouring ie wagtail, but then grow the extension to their tail :p

Very cool fish and much hardier than guppies, very similar to platies in many ways.

oooooo thats interesting piece of information william and just learnt something new.

Can you only get swordtails in red or do they come in several colours? just like the platies do? :p :p

I'm going to look in my local 'Maiden Head Aquatic's' store because i saw some a few weeks ago but they had a slight case of finrot through the whole stock!!! (a big no no)

We have a marigold swordtail male, his is really handsome. He has orange and a bit of yellow with the black tail. There are different colors available. Look around cause there are more than just red varieties.

Thanks i will, i think i will shop round to get the best deal and the best breed or strain.

I have a large platy he is yellow, with black bits on his fins and red marks along his back, could someone give me information on this type of breed? and a extreemly randy bugger!!!

Swordtials come in many differn't colours and mixed of colours. My favourite would have to be the green ones. You can get some that are a yellow a nd red and lots of differn't colours!
