This picture doesn’t really do justice to what I’m seeing but these two aquariums are getting full bore direct sunlight and it’s a joy to behold ! The colors of the fish really pop in direct sunlight and the bubbles and glass corners on the aquariums reflect and make prisms and rainbows that are fun to see . I also like watching the shadows of the fish on the wall behind them . This is a great time for fish watching when the sun is just right in the afternoon .

Yea - a long time ago when i was a kid i setup a 20 long for my gf in her dorm. We started with 2 or 3 swordtails - red variety - back then swordtails were really nice and a strand of densa whatever. By the time the school year was over (9 months) we had over 30 swordtails in that 20 long and a mile or two of densa whatever. The tank received direct sunlight from her window but it never developed any algae in that period; other than the frys that were eaten none of the tails died and in the end we stuff them all in a bag and walked them over to the pet shop (one of the best petshops ever - family run - alas the sign still exist in the spot it used to be located but now it sells clothes instead of pets. Oh well soon i will move to real town with pet shops and everything.

In summer when I'd help out with my wholesaler/importer friend we'd sometimes unpack boxes outdoors. You'd reach into the styro and pull out a bag to hold it up in the sunlight to see what it was. It was stunning.
One time it was a bag of Aphyosemion cameronense killies - probably the most beautiful sunlit fish I've seen.

It is a shame a sunlit tank generally has algae. I have a few tanks set up so they get an hour of natural light, and that's the best time to fishwatch.

this picture today... the flag fish is eating a lot of the algae, but the green diffuses a lot of it's bright colors...
