My aquarium thermometer is currently reading 83 degrees, and my house temperature is at 85. Tiger Barbs and Neon Tetras require lower temperatures, while Dwarf Gouramis and Amano Shrimp are slightly more flexible. How much difference does a higher temperature make?
I prefer opening windows and using fans over the A/C, but if it's gonna mess up the tank I suppose I'll have to.

For a few months each year, as long as everything else, water quality, good surface agitation are good, the fish will be fine. Most are bred in the far east and used to higher temps than normal. Another thing you can do, is add a clip on fan over your tank to increase evaporation. Most likely you'll have to add more water every day and can use cooler water when you do so. Check out the zoo med tank fan, I've heard they work really well.
