Okay, I'm going to have a sand substrate(black) and I'm going to also make a path out of play sand...(It will look neat,at least to me anyhow)... My question to you all is.....

How can I keep the two substrates separated?
:good:

Thanks,
Nathaniel

About the only way even remotely close to possible is to buy one of the tank dividers which are made of clear plastic and cut it to fit in the sand on edge. Even at that though, you will still be able to see it if it comes to the sand and if it is slightly under the sand, then it will get mixed.

Yes, pretty much impossible, especially if you have fish or inverts that like to rummage around in the substrate. Just go with the one type

Mmm, the only thing I can think of is... perhaps you could use the black sand entirely, and then use white pea gravel/marbles/flattish rocks to make a path ontop of the sand? I'm not sure if that would cause it to be compacted, though. Or you could still use the dividers, and then glue some form of border rock on top of the divider so that it keeps the white and black apart.
