ok I have set up my wonderful looking plant tank and it has been two weeks showing signs of new growth and I am happy.

But here is the question, how do I clean the substrate with out having to replant everytime? or do I even clean the substrate? I have looked around a bit but can't seem to find the answer. I would be very greatful for the help

If your substrate is sand, most of the crud lies on the surface and is easy to remove with a siphon or dip tube. You should just keep your sand open by prodding it about from time to time - I use a chop stick.

If it is gravel, then you need to vacuum a bit because the crud settles between the grains. Don't uproot and replant, just work around the more open areas. Remeber rooted plants will use the "matrial" that is falling down under them. If in doubt, you can always, again, prod about with a stick, if you are carefull, you won't damage the roots.
