Maybe this is a stupid question but here goes anyway! What is the most important if the power is lost?I figure heater and air supply. What do U guys do if the power is out 4 more than a couple of hours?I've thought about a generator and I need one 4 the house but not ready to spend $500.00 or more 4 one yet!Sad,I know, but I'm more worried about the 300.00 worth of fish I will have than the 50.00 in groceries in the refrigerator!Someone told me about a emergency power supply/surge protector made 4 computers;has anyone heard of this before?According to him it will last 4 around 6 hours depending on how much current is being used. Also,I hear U can just use a car battery w/a ac/dc adapter!Any thoughts?

the temp extreams here in the uk don't warent worrying about the temp (as well as central heating) and for aeration i would just use one of those battery powered fans aimed at the surface of the water

Do they make battery powered heaters? Here (North Carolina) I gotta worry about temps in the winter! How long will discus be alright without filtration? My power has been known to go out 4 days!

i havent ever seen a battery powered heater, have you not got central heating/air con

No central heating without power.Im out in the country, man

Well, Im in Louisiana and when hurricane katrina came it was horrible. Nothing to do, worried sick about my fish. We didnt have power for little over a week, and this was after the storm. It was burning up inside and outside. We kept the windows open and that really didnt help. If you'd ask me, Id worry about the air conditioner and fridge and freezer, dont want the food to go bad. And I wouldnt leave my fish out.

So what do U suggest Ecco?Is a generator the only possibility?

could you afford a generator and is it worth the cost?

I would even recommend if you are wanting to cool your water down when the power is out, go ahead and keep some ice cubes in the ice tray marked fish and freeze them with destilled water and then when you want to cool the tank down, just drop a couple of those in there!

good luck!
