Got a bit of bogwood, it's really nice, not that mopanni (sp) stuff but proper bogwood.

Bought it yrs n yrs ago, soaked it for a few weeks changing the water daily and it wouldn't give up chucking out tannin, know tannin won't harm the fish so put it in the tank as it was, after 6 months or regular water changes it was still making the tank water really dark so I took it out. Didn't want to sling it so just kept it in a cupboard, decided I wanted it in another tank so tried soaking again, been a month or so now and it's still producing loads of tannin.

Anything else I can do to get it out?

I gave up with mine and just started using the carbon inserts for my filter. Wussy way out? Probably, I didn't research it so hard. It worked, though.

when it was in the tank it was in with a carbon filter.... still wouldn't stop?!

*whistles* Good luck, then. I had several pieces in my tank at the time, most of my floor was bogwood, and the carbon insert on my then unaided Aquaclear 20 took care of the whole thing.

Was it a 'new' carbon insert, or an 'old' carbon insert?

erm don't know, was about 4 years ago! it's been in my cupboard ages!!

it was only a little tank with a relatively small internal filter though, am contemplating putting it into my big tank with a massive external filter, see if that works better?

oh and also how do you spell tannin??!!

you spell tannin like that try putting it in a big pan and boiling it for a couple of hours worked for me

I have soaked mine for a few weeks now, and it seems to be going! Good luck with yours

I must have been really lucky with my bogwood/driftwood - It only leaked tannins for a week or two before disappearing completely. But when it first started leaking I didn't know how bad it was going to be so I bought this synthetic filter media called Purigen - I popped it in my filter and within hours the water was clear.
