I have two tanks - a 40 uk gal with 2 Discus, 5 Cardinal Tetras, 5 rummy nosed tetras, 5 Black phantoms
5 cories 5 Black neons 5 harlequin rasboras. I wanted to add a britlenose plec in this tank but would i be overcrowded?
If so i have another tank which measures 3ftx2ftx2ft ( I dont know how many gallons) in that tank i have 4 Angelfish a common pleco and 2 rams.

I don't think you would be particularly overcrowded in that tank setup.

However I remember seeing somewhere that it isn't best to keep alge eaters such as plecs with fish like discus or angels as they can latch on to the high bodied fish and cause them damage.

Someone may correct me if i'm wrong, that's just what I think.

From what I've heard it's only Ottos which can exhibit this semi-parasitic behaviour, i.e. latching onto high bodied fish and sucking there slime, even then, only if there is'nt plenty of easier food for them to find.

As far as I'm aware plecs won't be a problem and if they're anything like mine and will keep themselves to themselves.

Paul.

Fair enough. Just saying what i'd heard. I don't mind being put right if i'm off the mark a bit.

Of the inch per gallon rule, I think you're close to the limit prettydiscus. That said you have quoted in uk gals. You have about a 47 US gal tank, so you may have enough room as a bn plec only grows to about 15cm, 6 inches. Also it would probably keep itself to itself. I think you may be ok.

As has often been said, the rules are a guide for beginners. The best guide is does the tank look crowded, then it probably is.
