im just putting some thoughts together on what to stock in my 270litre aquarium once its cycled. im thinking i want larger fish, maybe semi-aggressive.

so far im thinking about bala sharks, tiger barbs, silver dollars perhaps? i thought about oscars too but i think they are too big?

how would sharks, barbs and silver dollars get along with some good cover / hiding places? any other suggestions welcome too :)

thanks

That would be the perfect size for a mbuna tank. :hey: :hey:

Go light-end brackish and house large sailfin mollies. Big, showy gorgeous fish. Get some hardy, salt-tolerant plants, and you've got one really sweet setup.

thanks for the suggestions guys, a few things tho. mbunas ive heard prefer longer tanks, whereas mine is a corner tank and as you can see not really so long.

as for the mollys, i have a common pleco waiting to go in the 70g, so i think that would rule out brackish? also ive never really been into livebearers :/

also, bala sharks, really, too big for it? i thought they would be perfect.

any other ideas? :)

how about a bichir duno what sort could fit in a 70g someone probably does though. i like them. :) lol.

:good:

An oscar could fit with minimal tankmates, but bala sharks will grow too big for a 70g ;)

hmm certainly thinking about keeping an oscar, my lfs has some really nice ones. so, so far an oscar and a common pleco looking for tankmates, any suggestions ? :sly:

cant get much more.i would do a mbuna /hap tank.im getting a 75 gallon in the summer and doin that

Balas get to 14", need to be kept in schools of at least 5, and are very fast and jumpy, not good to have in a 70g ;)

ok im definitley set on a school of silver dollars so far, i think they look great. so, what do you think about, say 7 silver dollars, going in with my common pleco, maybe a solo angelfish too. think i could get much more in there? a school of smaller fish perhaps, though not small enough for the angel to eat :/

i was thinking about some barbs, but i guess they would chew on the angels fins

I have 5 clown loaches, 5 red line torpedo barbs, 2 pearl gourami, 5 leopard danios, 2 kribs, 1 plec, and a BGKF in my 70.

i love clown loaches :) but i have a sand substrate and plan to have malaysian trumpet snails doing their job in there, so cant have loaches munching them :(

what is a BGKF?

what is a BGKF?

Black Ghost Knife

If you want to keep it all South American fish you could do the SD the pleco and a couple of dawrf cichlids or pictus or some hatchet fish for the top of the tank.

This is what I have in my 265L

10 Cardinal Tetras
8 Parti Pentazona Barbs (like tigers but not as nippy)

5 Sailfin Mollies 2M 3F
3 Apistogramma (sunburst) 1M 2F
1 African Butterfly Fish

5 Amano Shrimp
1 Cherry Shrimp (did have 6 but think the ABF had them for lunch one day)
1 African Dwarf Frog (Gonna get him a friend soon)

NB The sailfins are the 4" size not the 7" ones, and the apisto is a dwarf chiclid
