hi all,

im new here and pretty new to owning freshwater fish.
id like some help on stocking levels please.
i currently have a 90 x 30 x 30cm tank, i already have;

2 opaline gouramis
2 paradise fish
5 leopard danio
5 guppy
3 platies
2 peppered corys
1 sucking loach
2 apple snails
1 african dwarf frog
30+ guppy fry (will hopefully keep a few and rest to friends tanks)

do i have too many or could i add more, if so how many more can i add?

thanks. xx

Do you know exactly what type of loach it is, because some loaches are schooling fish and some get to large for your tank. And I don't even thing that you can have any more fish...... TBH I think that your tank is a tad bit overstocked , and also. A little note about corys, they are schooling fish and you should have a minimum of 4 to 5

Hi thanks for yr reply.

yes its an algae eater. I did know that about the corys and was planning on adding another 4 on wed. if i was to add an over sized external filter would i be able to add more fish? xx

Do you mean a chinese algae eater? Or an otocinclus? 'algae eater' isn't a species.

That's a Chinese algae eater. You'll need to read up on them, as they get older they make less than ideal community fish.

Fishy friend, a Siamese algae eater looks like this http://www.thetropicaltank.co.uk/Fishindx/Fishpics/sae2.jpg

Edit: sorry, I see youve corrected yourself.

Looks like a Chinese algae eater to me, I'm afraid they get too aggresive for your tank

Common name: Algae Eater. Algae Loach.

Species: Gyrinocheilus aymonieri.

Habitat: Asia. download.jpg

Potential size: 10cm.

Social behaviour: Generally a peaceful community fish.

Food: Algae, wafers, tablets, vegetable matter etc.

iv had it for about 2 months and its not shown any territorial or aggressive behaviour.

They can suck on the slime coating on fish, it does happen. I'd also say 10cm is a conservative estimate at best...try two or three times that size in the right conditions.

And it IS a Chinese algae eater, not 'algae eater' or 'algae loach'.

Fishy friend, it's a silly way to remember, but the CHinese one looks CHecked...sort of...!

But he will show aggresive behavior as he ages. CAE would not be a good choice for your tank IMO

ok thanks i will bear this in mind and if he creates a problem my friend has a huge tank. xx

thanks for this. I thought my source was reliable but obviously not. its a shame as he looks cute atm.

can u see any other problems with my stock? xx

Other than the corys numbers and gazilion guppys, both being dealt with, no, not too bad :)

Id also like to get a school of neon tetras. I looking at getting at least 10. Would I need to rehome some other fish to do this? I know I 100% want to end up with a large school of tetra. 6 corys and 6 lropard danios. Xx
