I know I have been gone for a while and all, sorry about that. My mom has been wanting to get rid of our fish for a while now and I can't blame her, they aren't getting more interesting. If we do have a full cleanout, is there some sort of fish that would catch everybodies eye but will be happy in a 10 gallon on its own?

I was thinking maybe 1 Red-Tailed or Rainbow shark, would these be OK? Also, would either of these clean algea off the glass and plants? Another question, how long could I wait between giving away the community fish before I introduce a new fish to the tank?

Thanks for at least reading x3

The Red Tail ( I dont know if its the same for the rainbow ) needs 40-50 gallons due to their swimming habits and territorial attitude especially as they get older

I've been looking more in this forum and most people are saying that sharks need a much bigger tank. So, is there anything else you would suggest for my tank? (I was thinking about a Betta but I'm not sure)

Could get a shoal of Harlequin Rasbora, or if you wanted a "wow" fish could go for a betta and something they are compatible with

Any other suggestions? I could opt to my mom to move the fishtank upstairs in my room, but my floor is carpeted so I would need some kind of protection for it. I have a dresser that would be able to fit it perfectly and then a little spot for all the food and other stuff needed.
If she agrees to that, I could re-scape it with sand, floating plants, and add a Betta and some pygmy cories on the bottom maybe. Otherwise, still need a suggestion for a fish that would catch everyone's eye and make up for the 'annoying' (I think it quite peaceful, but my Mom and siblings don't) sound of the filter.

I was thinking about a swordtail pair instead of the Betta, but would they attack the cories?

I think you should decide first what you want: interesting behaviour and/or movement, colour etc. Once you have that clear then it is easier for us to give suggestions. For instance if you want interesting behaviour, you could think about some sheldwellers, if you are opting more for colour, what about some small rasboras and a gourami etc.
