Hi,
I currently have an aquarium of 35 US gallons. It is currently stocked with 4 platies (variatus), 5 Black Widows Tetras and 6 Danios. I was wondering what kind of fish would you guys add as the last addition to this thank (as per the 1inch per gallon I am going to be around 20 with those already in when full grown) or should I stop adding more?

Thanks!

Some type of gourami might be nice. How long has the tank been up and running for?

Around 1 year since I moved, otherwise its been 5 years. Had a amonnia and nitrites spikes upon moving that killed most fishes, so thats why I had to start repopulating.

Sounds pretty well matured then - like I said before, some sort of gourami would be nice. You could do a trio (1M,2F) of honey gouramis or a single/pair of a larger gourami specieces.

I went ahead and checked the Honey Gourami profile, it says that this guys eat plants, is it just nipping or will this guy basically chop down my plants to the ground?

I would imagine they would leave your plants pretty much alone as long as you keep them fed lol. On second thought though, they might be a little shy if your danios are very active - if you think this might be the case I would look at a larger species - a pearl gourami pair maybe. Take a look through the species index and see which type of gourami tickles your fancy, so to speak.

Do you fancy any kind of catfish? Cory's suit most community tanks, and their antics are quite amusing. I have the bronze cory, Corydoras aenus. Another easy to keep cory is the peppered cory C. paleatus (sp?) Their average adult size is about 2" so you could have a nice group of 5 of 6 either of one species or mixed.

They like groups of 6. I think you'd have room for 6 of them, just make sure they are all the same species. They're happiest and most active that way. I love my little cories!! They're very entertaining. I feed them sinking shrimp pellets and sometimes algea wafers. They seem happy.

What sex are the platies? If they breed, you might want to stop adding more fish now.

Platies are 1 male and 3 females, I am regularly giving those guys away to my cubemate at work to feed his couple of pirhanas (nature's way of dealing with those guys)
