You can see from my signature what I currently have in my larger tank. My aim is to take the platy fry to the LFS at the end of next month when they're big enough. I'd then like to add a male and female dwarf gourami or maybe thick lipped gouramis and another 3 corys. Do you think this would be acceptable in terms of room and living alongside what's in there already?

Well 130l is going to be somethign around 30G I think. Your general guideline for stocking is 1 inch of fish (adult size) per gallon. So once you've got rid of the platy fry your stocking will atke up this much room:-

1X Molly - 3"
2x Sterbie cories - 4/5"
5X Platy's - 10"

so that's about 18 inches of fish, so you have room for about another 12 inches worth.

Dwarf gourami's, adult size is about 3/4" so you could put a pair of them in and that would leave you another 4-6" free.

I'm not sureof the size of thick lipped gourami's, maybe someone else coudl help with that.

But I'd suggest upping your number of cory's, they really do prefer to be in groups of 6 or more.

I reckon you should have the following
1X Molly - 3"
6X Cories - 15"
5x Platy's - 10"
2x Dwarf Gourami's - 7"

That would put you a bit overstocked but it's just a guideline not a rule, I always think you can push it a bit if some of them are bottom dwellers like cories as they're not taking up anyoen else's swimming room. Also none of those fish are particularly high waste producing so as long as you have good filtration and keep up your water changes you should be fine :D

Thanks for your reply Miss Wiggle. Yep, I definitely want more cories, I just love the two I have but it's like they're not showing their full character. My only concern is that if I do get any more fry or need to quarantine a fish in the future then the neons would need to temporarily go into my main tank to free up my 28L tank. Do you think this would be ok as a short term measure if the gouramis and extra cories were in there?

according to Google 130 litres works out at just over 34gallons so I would say that you could even get a couple more than what Miss Wiggle has suggested. I have a couple of gauramis and they are beautiful fish. Maybe try a couple of those.

as a temporary measure it'd probably be fine..... but if your really looking to keep producing fry and growign them out then you need to set up a breeding/grow out tank just for this purpose. In an emergency I'd say yes put the neon's in but make sure you do really really really good cleaning, but as a possible regular solution I don't think you should.

And yes you'll love the difference in your cories if you get more of them, another thing they really love is an air pump, they play in the bubbles all teh time and it looks so much fun you want to go and join them!

Well thanks to both of you for your advice. :good:

no probs, good luck and enjoy stocking your tank :D

No probs, I would say that Mrs Wiggle is a better judge than me anyway.

 thanks.

i just try and explain things so people can understand how to work it out for themselves, much better that way :) just saying your overstocked is never gonna help anyone, you need to know why and how to work it out for yourself.
