Since I'm condesning my 55G to a 20G to move into the living room, I figure I should also get a better stock as well. Here's what I have:

1 Zebra Danio (I had more, but I received them from a friend who had them for a VERY long time and unforutnately died off)
1 Silver Hatchetfish
2 CLown Loaches
3 Red Minor Tetras
2 Cherry Barbs
2 Tetras (can't remember the exact name...they look like the Cherry Barbs but without the red, instead a yellowish/goldish color)

What should I add to complete the stock? I definately need an algae eaeter or two, and since these are schooling fish, I will need to add more of those I'm assuming. It will be a planted tank as well.

well the clown loaches r too big for a 20g 2 start with
if there neon tetras etc.. they r suposed 2 be in schools, i.e 6 or more
a good algea eater is a bristlenose plec..

Your stocking is pretty terrible as it is, I'm sorry to say. The clown loaches need to be kept in a 50-gallon minimum, so either keep your old tank going or re-home them. Even discounting them, you already are close to full stock for a 20-gallon - and every other fish you have is belongs in groups of six or more (might be able to get away with five for the danios or barbs, as they're social but not schooling).

So, you need to return a lot of fish to a LFS. Decide on one or two kinds of fish you like the most and get six or more of them. I would suggest one of these two options. Both of these are "pushing it" so you'll need to be heavily-planted and do weekly water changes

South American Tank:
6 Silver Hatchetfish
6 Tetras (which ever species you prefer)
Either 3 Otocinclus or 6 Dwarf Corys

Asian Tank:
5 Zebra Danios
5 Cherry Barbs
1 Siamese Algae Eater (gets to be nearly 6 inches, so it may need rehoming eventually)

you could just start your stocking again. if i were you i would get 6 neon tetras an oto and mabbee some rainbow or mickey mouse plattys and hope for babys. if i had a spar 20 GAL tank i think i would invest in a figure 8 puffer. i think they can go on a 20 GAL tank.
anyway hope this helps

I wouldn't keep danios and hatchets in a small tank together. They are both top dwellers, and hatchets are very peaceful, but the danios are vvery boisterous so they don't mix well. Pick one or the other, and get a group of 6.

Rehome the clown loaches. In case you didn't know, these fish can get up to 14".

Then pick one type of barb/tetra and get a group of them, about 6.

Auuming you keep a good maintenance schedule and have adequate filtration, it should work out.

OK thanks guys... I just took them back to a LFS and got $30 in credit (I got more for the loaches then what I paid...) They were all put into proper tanks but the bag I had of the danio, hatchet, and 3 red minors...that was put into a random tetra tank with none of those in there...I told the guy to put them in the right tank after so I hope he listened and dumped them with the rest...anyway I got everything but the decor for about $120 (paid $15 more for Bio Spira cause they were out of the small one and $60 in flourite, but other then that I'm happy). Now I'll start stocking soon as soon as the tank stabilizes and the Bio Spira is working.

what have you decided on getting. like i said before i think you should go with the stocking i said or mix and match with peaceful top dwellers its up to you
good luck

I've decided to go with 6 tetras, a few corys, and another group of community fish that I'm undecided on. I'll add the tetras and corys, then my shipment of plants will come in, and then I'll add my last group..
