Someone just told me about there friends stocking....

15Gall tank

7 Guppys
1 Clown Loach
2 Black Phantoms
1 Plec
1 Red Tailed Shark
2 Corys

What do you lot think to this? Would they be ok ?

The plec and the red tailed shark NEED TO GO. You are way overstocked. Once the plec and red tailed shark go, you should be ok. Oh, and i think the clown loach should go to. Oh and you should gert some more black phantoms

Not my stock mate, someone i dont even know actually lol!

Why you think plec and shark should go ? Could be a small plec?

Highly unlikly its a small plec, their kinda hard to find, the most common plecs are the 12"+ ones

plecos tend to get huge, ive had 2 for like a months or 2 now and theyve got 3 times their original size already, and the rtbs will get 5 inches or so so u need a bigger tank, same for clown loach,, too big for the tank,, especially with other fish being in it wit them. i wouldnt get rid of them tho tell ur friend to get another tank cuz the fish are all sweet fish just need a bigger tank

Bad stocking mate. Go get some platies and mollies and guppies they look better and best.

Not all Plecos get huge, it all depends on what type it is. If it is a common then it can grow to about 18", if it's a Bristlenose then it will grow up to about 6".
The shark would need to go as stated above and the Clown Loach can reach up to 12". they also like to be kept in groups of 3+ and need plenty of swimming space.
The Black Phantoms also prefer to be in a group of 6+ and there may be a problem with them nipping at the Guppies.
Cories are also best kept in groups of about 5-6.

Surely we need to know what pleco it is before making assumptions?
Not many LFS near me sell common plecos so its probably unhelpful to assume it will get large.......
:dunno:

Allen needs to post either a picture of the pleco or a detailed description, IMHO.

I did say most plecos i believe but if i didnt i appologize, and clown loaches can get to 12 inches but from what ive read thats more of a wild size and in captivity theyve rarly been seen over 6-8. That is off of many different sites and some generalize it as 6-12. worst case ur plannin on upgrading or doing something about the id sharks when need be so just do the same if the clown loaches do manage to get 12 inches. im not an expert atall nor do i know much about some of the fish you have listed so i was just putting my opinion about the loaches, id's and pleco's.

Clown Loaches can grow up to 12" in an aquarium providing they are well cared for and are in a good sized tank. They can reach up to 16" in the wild.

Murphy - you haven't offended anyone so no need to apologise. A lot of people assume it is a Common Pleco as these are so often mis-sold as "small" plecos. It could well be a common but pictures will help someone ID it. :good:
