Yes, it's another one of those posts, but you know what, getting other people's opinions is useful.

So I have a 30 Gal fully cycled tank, has a Tetra whisper EX45 filter, needs a new heater though...
Readings are all good, save the pH, which is about 8-8.2, but it's pretty hard to fix that without buying an RO unit..

Anyways; I'm planning to rehome my Pearl Gourami as she has become aggressive and they do not sell adult male PG's around here so I'm SOL for getting her an appropriately sized mate to help calm her down.

So I was thinking to replace her as center piece fish I could get a pair or trio of Honey Gourami, (1:1 M/F or 1:2 M/F ratio) I would prefer a trio honestly

I plan on keeping the rest of my stock as it stands, with some minor adjustments:
1 Zebra Danio: (I caught my five others ans sold them, but I couldn't catch him so I guess he's staying, though I want to re-home him)
5 Panda Corys: Plan on making it a nice even 6
2 Female Platys: Maybe get another one
1 Male BNP

So my hopeful stock would be:
3 Honey Gourami (1 M : 2 F)
1 zebra Danio
6 Panda Corys
2-3 Female Platys
1 BNP
6 or so of some schooling fish that I need help deciding on/would like more information of options I could choose..

Now I'm thinking I want to add some sort of schooling fish, I heard Cherry barbs were nice and I've liked the look of them in the pet store, but I feel like that would be too much orange/yellow in my tank. So I'm not sure...
Does anyone have any suggestions for a school of 6 or so fish that wouldn't drive the Gourami mad like my Zebra Danio's drove my Pearl? (Which is why I looked into cherry babrs, because apparently they're calmer swimmers)

Doesn't sound like too much orange/yellow to me. Cherry barbs sounds good. Maybe a group of female guppies? Some of them can be beautiful, and they're fairly calm.

hi

Firstly the 1 zebra danio , will not be happy and may get nippy, so i suggest getting a few more, or try and catch it.
so the schooling fish i would suggest tetra , infact rummeynose they are knows to be the best schooling fish , about 6 would add a splash of red

I suspect the honey gouramis will be a lot more tolerant than your pearl. I had to rehome mine as they didn't fit with my desired stocking, but they are a really lovey fish. Very...polite... :)

I tried to re home all my Danio's because they weren't what I was looking for in my tank, I sold the others but I couldn't catch this last one. I don't plan on getting more, and because I can't catch this one there isn't much to be done :/

This Old Spouse:

As far as too much orange/yellow in my tank, I was looking into Albino Cherry barbs which are rather a reddish white color so hopefully you're right. I prefer my platy's to my guppies though ;) But I did see some lovely ones last night when I bought a new heater :) We'll see how the tank turns out when I've got my Pearl re-homed and I (Hopefully) have my pair/trio of honeys

JenJ:
My Pearl is by far the biggest in the tank other than my BNP so she bullies the other fish to no end, and with some advice from other members I assume she is so aggressive because she had to deal with a school of fast swimming Zebra Danios which prehaps drove her a little loopy. She really is a lovely girl but it's to the point where she is even bullying my corys :O Which is a no-no.

Mind elaborating on what you meant by.... polite..? :p

Ha ha! It's the best word I can think of to describe them. I think I said something on here before about how you can almost hear them say to the other fish 'excuse me, would you mind awfully if I swum past you?'

They're the only fish I've regretted moving on.
