Alrighty, After my stupid 10gallon crashing with so many diseases & illness and after it cracking and spilling all over my bedroom floor, I've decided to take whatever was left from it (Hood/light/filter/and heater) and start it back up. Yesterday I bought a new 10gallon for 10bucks. It brings back lots of memories having it in my room. Anyways, I know all the basics just want a few suggestions on tank inhabitants. I was thinking of maybe an entire school of tetras. Sine this isn't going to be my main tank I want it to be a single species tank. Tetras would look so gorgeous schooling together in a huge group  . I've heard that if you want to start a single species tank then you can get more, for example if you wanted a mix species then you would need to follow that 1 inch per gallon rule. But with one species you can add a bit more, is that true? Is so, I've been thinking of what tetra would look really nice. This is possibly going to be a planted nano since its small and I've never looked into planted tanks before and want to take this dive. :fun: . So what I was thinking of having 15 tetras. :D . If that would be considered over stocked then i'll bring it down to 10 :)

u should get a figure 8 puffer rather than tetras.ud have to chose certain plant due to low brackish levels.

no. a figure 8 will not do in a 10 gallon. it gets too big.

here are some options.
A: apistogramas of certain kinds, depending on heavily you plant it.
B: betta sorority
C: a school of tetra and a school of cories
D: Planted with cherry barbs and cories
E: Khuli loaches and some school of tetra
F: bumble bee goby brackish tank
G: Dwarf puffer tank with a few ottos

those are all that come to mind.

oh, and for possible plecs, Clown plec, Candy stripe plec, Bulldog plec, and rubbernose plec.

I'd also say, depending on filtration ,tetras, and cories 8 tetra and 6 cories

Yeah I'll go with the school of tetra and cories. I'm going to take this one slow just until I have time in winter break after my final exams.

I think a 10 gallon is too small for a big school of tetras. 8 tetras and then 6 cories in my opinion is to much for a 10 gallon. Tetras like lots of swimming space, but if you insist. I would say 6 Tetras and 3-4 of the smaller Cories like Pandas, and even then it's slighty overstocked. Ideally Cories should be kept in groups of 6 though..

i agree with gnatfish.not so much about the 8 tetras, its the 6 cories.6 cories is way to many for a 10 gallon.if you want tetras and cories, then i'd get 1 cory and 8(max) small tetras.my stepson has a 18 gallon tank and we only keep 2 cories in there.you could keep pygmy cories in your tank.they are very small growing.do some more research on what cories/teras you like,but,6 cories is a defo no no.think of what barbs, tetras, cories etc you like, post back on here and then well help you with a stocking list :good:

1 or 2 corries is generally not accepted since they perfer to be in groups of 4 +, just like tetra perfer 6+.

and I say tetra and cory in looooooose fashion. Panda's and Pygmy would probably be advisable with a sand substrate, and then a shoal of 8. It needs good filtration and planting to do what I was suggesting on 8 +6.

What do you mean by "looooooose fashion"?

Pandas grow to 5cm and Pygmys 2.5cm. You could go for 6 tetras and then 8 pygmy cories, but thats still slightly overstocked.

If it was me i would go for a Dwarf Puffer or two with ottos, heavily planted. But it's a matter of opinion, but please dont put to many fish in there.

lol, I wont. It's just that you guys advised me that I can get 8+ cories with good filtration so I just went along with it. I've been out of FW for too long to remember what I like. I'll just go with a big school of tetras. Maybe 10 Neons.

i had a 10 gallon kinda like what you want to do
i used a sand substrate
i very heavily planted it (buy a CO2 pump, helps alot)
i had about 6-8 cardinal tetras (otherwise known as jumbo neon tetras)
and 1 bristlenose plec
looked great :D

Yeah 8 PYGMY cories. They grow to about 2.5cm, so therefore 8 would fit.

OK! Yeah I just remembered how boring cories looked so I think I'll go with something else. Maybe a school of tetras and um yeah just tetras.
