Can anybody tell me what might be causing my star fishes legs to fall off? I have two small start fish, each of which seem to have lost one leg very suddendly. First my small orange star's leg was missing... then about a month later I bought a small purple one and within a couple of days, one of it's legs were missing too! What the hell man? :S
I can't seem to figure out what's going on here... Certainly my fish couldn't be eating them. Has anyone else ever seen this happen before? I thought that maybe they just fall off at random and grow back, but that doesn't seem to be the case here... Any suggetsions?

Thanks, Greg

Aren't starfish salt water animals? Do you keep them in fresh water? Possibly the water isn't compatable with them and it's affecting them.

Gad, we have a SW section, too. B) Seems GL missed this post, tho. :(
I ran a search and came up w/ wetwebmedia.com. Check the SeastarsFAQ....seems it's not that uncommon.
Water quality a concern (as I'm sure always is w/ SW, well fresh for that matter ) or perhaps aggressive tankmates.

Hope to help.
Be sure to check back, tho. I'm sure GL, or one of our other salties, will be back soon! :)
