Stand/support For Tank

Hi

While deciding on which tank I'm looking to get in the new year (4ft ~ 75gal), I've been wondering about the stands/cabinets that come with the tanks. Are the supplied cabinets any good? Obviously they can support the weight but how about the quality etc?

I'm wondering because they are quite expensive when added to the cost of the tank. Can I get away with buying a cabinet or a different type of stand from somewhere like ikea? Would these be strong enough to hold the weight of a 4ft tank? Or would I be better off plumping for the stand?

I don't like the way they are built either, especially for the price. I make my own, sturdier and cheaper.

You have to realize that a full 75 gallon, with all the equipment, is going to weigh somewhere around 700 pounds. If you don't want to spring for a stand, or build your own, the best option is finding an older piece of furniture, as these are built quite a bit better than anything new that would be cheaper than the stand. A garage sale or craigs list cabinet for cheap, plus some internal modifications for support, and you have a nice piece of furniture that is strong enough to hold the weight.

Thanks for the reply, I figured DIY would be the only other option. My skills however are "incompetant" at best! I found this link today which looks plausible for even my skills but does anybody have an opinion on it?

Does it look sturdy enough for a 4foot tank when full?

Failing DIY I'll just end up plumping for the cabinet but they're all about £100 (~$200)!
