im planning on adding some fish to my tank this week , and the plan is 3 f8 puffers , some bumble bee gobys , and a couple others .

its the couple of others im having trouble with , i havent looked into them , can anyone offer me some advice ? basically they need to be ok with f8`s and bees , i keep hearing about *monos* ?

the tanks a 40 gallon

obviously will be a brackish set up , any hints or tips will be looked into, and decided upon . ill be adding the f8`s last

thanks guys and dolls

Monos really aren't an option in 40 gallons.

You'd be better off with something like orange chromides, which are colourful, relatively small (about 8 cm at most) and should have enough speed and punch to coexist with figure-8s at least as well as monos. Do provide them with lots of rocks and other hiding places though, since the cichlids are territorial, and prefer not to stray too far from their chosen caves.

Cheers, Neale

are they likely to tear up the tank ? for example uproot plants ?

are they a high waste fish ?

Yes, they dig a bit, but nothing too serious. As for "high waste" I'm not sure what you mean. For pufferfish you'll need very strong filtration and regular water changes; anything good enough for puffers will be good enough for chromides. But like any cichlid, high levels of nitrate are toxic to them, and above, say, 20 mg/l, you can have problems. The fact the water is brackish helps a bit, since salt detoxifies nitrate, but still, I wouldn't take liberties.

Feel free to say thanks (and use capital letters) any time you like. :shifty:

still looking for some help guys.............

sounds like you just want someone to agree with what you already have in mind. (though i agree monos are a poor choice) do some research online if you want some compatability ideas check out this site...it also gives some tank size requirments which i still find a little conservative.

as far as asking for a thank you or requesting that you learn to type "correctly" im not that concerned haha.
happy researching!

thats a blinding web site ! cheers fella, and to be quite honest , who gives a #### about spelling, lol i dont

The Badman's web site is pretty good in many ways, but the brackish sections contains myriad errors. I'd approach it with caution, and use it alongside some other, more reliable, source, such as my book or the Aqualog brackish fishes one.

As far as spellings and manners go, that's your choice. I'm more likely to answer questions that are written nicely, and I appreciate it when people are polite. It also makes me sad that, as an Englishman, I find so many English people who can't be bothered to use the English language properly. It shows a lack of interest in how it works and what proper English says about a person. It's as if they don't really care about Englishness or English values. To me, that's sad, and symptomatic of so much in England that's going downhill as people stop caring about the country! Litter, bad manners, bad English, pseudo-American "lad" culture... it's all part of the same thing to me.

Cheers, Neale
