This is one of my females, for the past month her spine has been going out of shape and it keeps getting worse... Any idea what's causing this?

Thanks!

Some fish are born with bent spines, maybe yours has always had a slightly bent spine and as she is ageing it is more noticeable? It doesn't harm them. Is she otherwise ok?

She is perfectly fine otherwise, and didn't have a bent spine when I first brought her home. It is beginning to effect her swimming though, so I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse.

It may not be TB, it COULD be a genetic flaw that is causing this, I suppose there are other diseases, also, that could do it but i don't know what they are. If it were me, though, i would treat it as if it WERE TB even if i didn't know. Be very careful when changing the water (if possible, wear gloves) and make sure you don't have any cuts or scratches on your hands as that is the only way fish TB can actually infect people.

also don't cross contaminate your other tanks as it's very catching among fish and there is no cure.

otherwise, fish with bent spines may need special care such as lower water levels and the like, but they can still have good quality life. Just keep an eye out fr further signs of illness.

best of luck

Hmm, it's probably scoliosis like Synirr said. I googled it, and it seems like all the websites say it has something to to do with nutrition (lack of certain amino acids or vitamins), or low mineral content or high salt content in the water... but I'm sure it could be genetic as well.

I really doubt it's TB, since her spine's been bending for a month and she's not acting sick.
