I currently have a 5.5 gallon tank with 1 sparkling gourami and 1 tiny feeder guppy/endler mix. I really want to change the tank into a shrimp tank, but keep my 2 other fish in there as well. Would the sparkling gourami eat any shrimp?

The gourami would probably eat any babies the shrimp had and depending on the size of the adult shrimp it would probably eat them too. If the shrimp fits in is mouth it will end up as dinner eventually.

Yep the sparkler will eat all the young it can find. I had a sudden halt in my cherry population when I added one to my 20gal. They don't bother the ones that they can't eat.

Agree with the others they will be fine with adult cherries or other dwarf shrimp, they may snap at the antannae but wont be able to eat them, they will however hunt down the babies and being small themselves they can get in all hiding places.

Hey do you know if you got your sparkling gourami at your LFS or off the internet? are they easy to get meaning do most LFS carry them?

i find my sparkling gourami purely by accident. i went to a lfs near my school, and it is considered to be the best in the tri-state area. they carry a wide variety of rare and unusual fish species. i was browsing around and saw the sparkling gourami all by himself in the tank. that was the first time i ever saw them. i reguarly visit lfs's and i've never seen any other store carry them.

I got mine from a semi-local fish store, They say they are the best in MN and I agree with that. They always have Sparklers in stock and they are the only store I have seen carrying them. IMO most LFS won't carry them, which is a shame. If you are looking to order off line, I suggest www.franksaquarium.com. He doesn't have any instock right now, but I have always heard good this about him. The fish you want is Trichopsis pumilus not the other one.
