Hi,

I set up a quarantine tank this morning using an old 125L but am a bit concerned as 1 of the 4 Cory I put into the tank when I set it up this morning is now showing problems with buoyancy...

I had filled the tank 2 days ago, and ran the filter and heater since then with no media in it...didn't bother with de-chlorinator as the water was there for 48 hours...then this morning I grabbed some really old media from the main tanks good filter and put it in the old tank along with 4 cory's, I didn't want to put media in without any load on it. Now I did have to chase those little blighter's quite a bit before I rounded them up which obviously tired them out, so I am wondering whether the buoyancy problem could be caused through stress? WHat else could cause the issue when moving fish between tanks?

Just to be sure I have done an 80% water change on the old tank and have just tested for Ammonia and Nitrite and they're both zero...so either there was a very small mini-cycle whilst the media took hold which affected the little chap or something else altogether? In hindsight maybe I should have treated the water, I'm not sure if chlorimine is in the water supply and I am guessing that stuff stays in the water unlike Chlorine even after the water was left for 48hrs?

I'll be keeping a close eye on things and doing whatever water changes I need to to see zero reading for Ammonia and Nitrite...

Any ideas what might have caused the little guys to have these problems, the other 3 cory seem okay so far anyway...

I am wondering whether I ought to move the new fish that went into the tank this afternoon, straight into my main tank risking infection, in case there is a problem although they look very well right now.

Any help and guidance would be seriously appreciated.

All 4 cories are a little bit run down and not moving all that much which I assume is from the rounding up I had to put them through but I can't see any red gills etc...

Please help, if only to put my mind at ease

Thanks

edit: Vid of what's going on: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=akMWkFPpoEI

Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 0 - freshly filled...
pH : 7.5 - as with the tap and my main tank...

Gas..air gulping on the move maybe...

The little fella has settled down now

Keeping a close eye on him and will probably do another water change tonight (30% or so) before bed just in case...

I would guess at stress from being chased so long.

When I was trying to catch some clown loach lately it took a loooooooong time and after I'd finished the remaining crew weren't right for a few days. I have read somewhere recently that it isn't good to chase fish for long periods trying to catch them. Would just leave them where they are for now and keep an eye on them just in case.

Not worth risking infecting a whole tank

Yeah, they gave me a bloody good run for my money as it were...not sure who was more knackered from it all...

At least in the qt it is much easier to catch fish, the rock work and wood is simple and can be removed easily, leaving no where to hide...in the main tank I didn't want to remove any decor as there's quite a lot but in hindsight it might have taken me less time overall! The cory's will stay in that tank from now on, to keep the load up when other fish come out

To be hinest they were getting some gip from the Bristlenose anyway...Cory's just don't know when to get the message about territory

I just tested the water in the tank again (gonna need new testing kits soon...far too trigger happy with them) and all zero's for the vital ones and the others match the main tank...must have been stress and gas...

Did you read the PM I sent, shame you're not closer aye, they're inundated with the geo's at present...pics tommorow

Everything fine still, Ammonia and Nitrite are zero still this morning, must have been from the stress of the move
