Ok I recently acquired a rather large piece of driftwood that had a couple of smaller pieces that had broken off that I am currently getting ready to put into my tank after they have had a chance to let them get water-logged and sterilized. My question is how long does it usually take to soak a piece of wood to the point that it will not float? Right now they have been soaking for about 1.5 days in a trash can. Each piece is about 8x4x1.5 inches and 15x3x2 inches if this gives any indication of the sizes. I'd take pics but my 'puter is on the fritz. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance. Royce

well i know it could take up to months to completely sink, but you want to consider attaching a piece of slate to the bottom and screwing it on. I currently have done that, and i have seen improvent in that the wood is a little more soaked. i am still waiting for it to completely go down.

It may take months depending on the size of the wood, volume of water and amount of tannins in it. A piece of slate will help it sink but te best way is to put rocks on it until it stays down.
