Not surprising really. The first one was great and a showcase for what the Xbox could do. The second played really well and just as you felt you were getting into it...just ended. I was bitterly disappointed with the second one and as a result couldn't care less about the third.

First Person Shooters have been done to death. Until they can come up with something a bit more innovative than a sniper rifle (please, are we to believe that in 1,000s of years in teh future the ultimate weapon at range will still be a sniper rifle?) then I will avoid FPS.

It is true that there are alot of FPS out there, including alot of bad ones. I can understand why the story mode of halo may not be that engrossing if you haven't read the books, and the cliffhangers are certainatly annoying, but at least this means i get to look forward to halo 3 LOADS :D . The thing that really got me hooked on halo was the multiplayer, which i think is much more refined than any other fps out there, but the multiplayers best advantage is the community. You can have xbox live if you want to pay for it(and it is worth it), but you also get multiple other free options for online play. Also, nothing beats an all-nighter with friends playing online or four players together.

We've used guns for the past 700 odd years, and before that it was things like swords, which we have been using for many thousands of years. Even up until around 300 years ago, swords were still used as a main weapon by armies. I think it's quite possible that we will still be using projectile weapons in 500 years time, and the ones in halo are much more advanced than what we see today, but realistically so :) . There are lasers too, but these are mainly restricted to big space ships and anti-tank weapons B) .

I can understand why you donut like halo that much if your not into first person shooters as a whole, but other wise theres no excuse for not liking halo :good: .

lol in 500 years time your worries that ere still using sniper rifle................
If your that botherd about realisim supprised u didnt mention the aliens and that :fun:
never played the single players only playedmulti players and they were fun!

FPS are not repetitive in my opinion. At the moment I am back in the 40s playing call of duty. Farcry takes you to the Caribbean, Half Life to the alien infested present and Doom to the future. As an aside, I think the PC rules for gaming.

Same here, i find using a mouse/keyboard much more accurate and faster than a joypad. Just can't get on with a joypad for shooting games.

The only problem is having to keep updating your computer to play the newest games

I was into FPS, I was among the first people playing Wolfenstein and Blake Stone on an old IBM 286 and a 386 machine. I remember playing Doom shortly after it came out and marvelling at Quake (especially the AI on the Reaper bots...). But to be honest, after that there hasn't really been any great move forwards in the actual gameplay. It is still just run around and shoot more accurately with a bigger gun than your foe. The only changes are in the size and detail of the levels you play in.

All the games do is give you enemies that are a bit harder and restrict the ammo to make it harder rather than posing real challenges. You might be set in different times/places, but the gameplay is still the same.

My point on sniper rifles is an echo of the above, in 10 years or so of FPS no one has come up with a new idea on how to do a long range weapon.

I liked Halo, it was a good game and was a decent FPS as it introduced a limit on weapons you can carry. But the second one was as much an improvement as Doom 2 was to Doom (that is, barring a few new enemies and a couple of guns, the gameplay was the same). And that weak ending was just pathetic, and I have read the novels, they still don't make me like the cheap ending on the4 stroyline just as it finally started going somewhere.

I guess it shouldent really come as a surprise that some people just don't like halo, but it does  . Just another case of everyone having their own tastes :) . As for halo not really being much different from other FPS and FPS not changing over time that much as a whole...i cant agree or disagree with you, you've been playing them much longer than i have and have more experience with them than me. Halo was the first FPS i got into, i had played lots before, but halo was the first that impressed me and i actually enjoyed playing the single player.
Before halo, my favorite games were all RTS on the PC.
And the ending....yes it was very annoying, but that type of ending is done all the time in games, movies and books so it didn't disappoint me, it made all hyped up about halo 3- exactly what bungie intended so good on them :good: .
Also, i cant think of anything that would be able to replace the sniper rifle in FPS....but whats wrong with the sniper rifle? :p

I'm going to jump in with my two cents here. Halo, great game. Halo 2 I think ruined it for me. Between the storyline (yes I have read the books which were good) and the simplification of weapons and targeting it was just bad. All of a sudden, it doesn't take much skill to be an ace with the sniper rifle or various other weapons. It became easy to 2-shot with the BR/plasma pistol. It was all about who got X weapon first. Very little amount of skill involved IMHO. The one good thing I can say about Halo 2 is the removal of that god forsaken super pistol.

Another reason I'm not excited about Halo 3.... X-box 360 has yet to impress me... I've seen it, and I don't notice much of a difference between it and original xbox.

With the 360, the graphics are much better, its kinda easy to tell, but their not mindblowingly better even if you have an hd tv.
Other than that, slightly improved pad (best of any console), the whole xbox live market place(tonnes of free demos and other stuff), streaming video, music(you can play the music from your pc in any xbox game at any time), pictures from pc's in your house(or across the street with wifi if your neighbors feel like it).
Oh yeah, the games are better too :D

What i've been disappointed with is the ps3, granted i've only played 2 games, but the graphics are not better than the 360's at all(playing them both on an hd screen). Also, the lack of rumble was just terrible, especially in "Riiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaacer!", it feels like losing one of your major senses :( .
That and the price.
