any one got a good way to discard snails ive cleaned the tank out and removed loads but within a few weeks there back in even more numbers what good stuff out there that kills them for good as im not going to go out and waste money on crap products

cheers dane

why do you want to get rid of snails, they do no harm.

wont remove most of them but quite a few, float a piece of lettuce after the lights have turned off and put in some cucumber as well, remove them before lights go on and you should have caught quite a few

tryed that but found my many baby bns hanging upside down munching there little hearts out

cheers dane

lol, i think king british do a good snail remover product that works quite well

it just knocks them out and you have to get them out before they start destroying my tank again

cheers dane

I wish I knew the answer Dane!
We have the same problem in our Zebra tank and even removed the substrate to help solve the problem. 3 days later and they were back again....

i have read up on them and it says there eggs are really small and when you know them out you suck them out via gravel cleaner but its a bit hard when you have sand in your tank

they also thrive on fish eggs and it aint good when when im trying to breed more bn's
if i here any more on how to get rid ill pm you

cheers dane

Thanks Dane! :good:
I know it's probably going to be a while before our Zebras breed but I'd rather tackle the snail problem now. My other half is constantly taking the snails out of the tank and it's driving him potty!
Likewise, if I hear anything, I'll let you know. ;)
Good luck with breeding more BN's, I wish ours would!

i have over 500 wigglers at the min spread over 4 tanks and have female thats at bursting point with more eggs
wifes agrred to get zebs this time next year :hyper: :hyper: taking time in selcting tank and kit and so on

cheers dane

You lucky thing! 500 BN fry, my idea of heaven!
Good luck with the Zebras and let me know when you get them, they are such a beautiful Pleco. :good:

I'm not sure how safe this is, but one of my friends tried it and it got rid of all his snails. He removed ALL his fish and plants and then ran an electric current through the water. I'm not sure how he did it but it electrocuted everything in the tank. There wasn't one thing left alive in it. Then he just put all his plants and fish back in and vaccummed the gravel really well to remove all the dead snails. It seems just as dangerous as adding a bunch of chemicals to your tank (if they kill snails what will they do to your fish and plants?) but it would garuntee every snail dead, which some chemicals can't do.
I would personally never do it but snails don't bug me as much. I just pick them out every morning when I feed my fish.

You will have to be persistant with this as the little buggers can reach epedemic proportions if left unchecked. Squish them against the glass and
Piece of meat in a jam jar after lights out, remove and start again. There are chemical remedies out there but the will inturn have a knock on effect and will surely lead to fish deaths if not used correctly. The only true way (I discovered when breeding a certain species of killifish) is to have very soft water and a very low pH (below5) but this is not possible or viable for everyday aquarists.
