Been looking and all I can find are products that 'knock out' snails so they can be syphoned away.
Trouble is if you miss one (which you will) then before you know it you are back to square one - and it has no effect at all on snail eggs.

I havent taken this decision lightly....
I cant stock a snail eating fish.
Crushing/removing them by hand doesnt work...satisfying though it is
These 'knock out' products do exactly what they say on the tin which is incredible to watch but they return with a vengence.
The lettuce leaf / courgette thing simply doesnt seem to attract mine at all.

I want them gone without having to try and dismantle my whole tank.
Does anyone know of a product that will simply kill all snails and eggs?

Many thanks

Killing all the snails would be very dangerous, you would only need to miss a few dead snails and your tank would quickly become polluted with high ammonia and nitrite levels, and any product that was strong enough to kill snails would most likely kill all your fish too.

The simplest way to get rid of snails is to starve them out, it takes time but by making sure they have no food source their numbers soon dwindle down to less irritating numbers, large numbers of snails also is a good way to tell you are over feeding.

Cut down on what you feed your fish by half and ensure that no food goes uneaten for longer than one minute, if any food remains after this time net or syphon it out straight away. Clean any algae you can see from the glass and ornaments and thoroughly vacuum the substrate every time you do a water change. Remove any soft leaved plants and prune any dead or dying leaves from tougher leaved plants. Any large snails you see can be physically removed.

Within a few weeks your snail population will be noticably less and after a few months the numbers should be low enough to replant the tank with soft leaved plants without the snails becoming a problem again, just keep the feeding low and the tank clean.

I agree completely, however if you really want to get rid of them you could try and find AquaMaster SnailRid, be careful though as it can easily harm small or scaleless fish.

If you are REALLY desperate, you could try and find some Copper Sulfate solution however I wouldn't recommend it as it should be used as a disease/anti-bacterial treatment and can very easily be lethal.

Many thanks to you both for your replies.

I reduced the ammount I have been feeding the tank in question (to what I consider barely enough, all food consumed within about a minute - about 10 days ago now) but the numbers simply arent dropping...noticeably at least, if anything I would say the numbers seem to be increasing and they have now started on my plants - its very heavily planted.

And thats my concern.
I really like the layout and look of that tank - or at least I did before the snails arrived!!

By my way of thinking as well - if I starve them off (as suggested) -OR- if I use a product to eradicate them completely, I am still going to be left with a LOT of dead snails so will need to stay on top of spikes.
