Hi There,

One of my Oranda has a small (about the size of one of the scales) white fleshy bump on its side towards its tail.
There are 4 oranda's.
Ammonia is neutral but the the Nitrite is 0.2.
I have done a water change and will test again later.
The tank is a 90 litre Fluval Roma, established for at least 18 months.

I am worried about this being an infection or a cyst. Should I treat my water with any medication?
Any advice would be really welcome.
Regards

Chris

First of all, the tank is overstocked.

As far as the ill oranda goes, is the white thing like a cottony growth?
What do you mean by 'Neutral' Ammonia

Your tanks overstocked.
For 4 oranda's you need at least a 45 gallon tanks and a 90 gallon filter.

What test kit are you using.
Is the bump filled with fluid or look hard.
Any redness to the bump.
Id the bump beneath the skin or on top of the skin.

Thanks Guys,

I never thought it was over stocked as I asked all the relevant questions to the guys n my local fish shop who sold me the fish, including the tank?
Yikes, what is the best thing for me to do? I cant fit in a bigger tank.
The ammonia is at 0 and the nitrite is at 0.2.

Here is a picture of the protrusion which you can clearly see.
I did have a UV steriliser which used to control the algae but that gave up a month ago - do you think UV units are a good idea?

Thanks guys,

Regards

Chris

All you can do really is add a bacterial med to the tank.

Never used uv steralisers so couldn't comment.

Goldfish grow large and are massive waste producers that's why they need large tanks, and extra filteration.

I would also reccomend a water change of 25% to keep the Nitrite levels down :good:

Side Note: Its advisable not to litsen to the LFS 'Advice', as they will sell you stuff for money.

hi

Thanks for all your guidance.
Any clues on the white raised scale??

Chris

Raised scale can be caused by the fleshy lump or bump.
Teh raised scales is it in the area of the lump.

Hi,

In the photograph above, it looks like its grown between the scales.
At first I thought it may have been a bite from one of the Oranda, (Or a nasty suck......)
It doesn't seem to be acting any different to the others but I suppose thats not to say there isn't something wrong with him?

best regards

Chris

Ok.
have you added a bacterial med to the tank?

Hi,

No I haven't. But I will go to my LFS tomorrow and get some and add it to the tank.
I will get a bigger filter too.
I will let you know how I get on.

Many thanks

Chris
