I have a 54 litre tropical tank, which is newly set up.  I have 5 neon tetras, 2 panda corys, and 2 harlequins ... ( I did have 3 shrimp until the change of tank very sadly sent them to shrimp heaven).  I am looking to put more small corys in there, but need them to stay small.  Any suggestions on which variety to add?  I also wish to put in a couple of kuhli loaches in as they seem to be the most attractive small loaches around.  I will replenish my shrimps in a month or so, when the water is perfect, so anything I add must be shrimp friendly ...

Welcome!

The easiest (and best) answer is: more pandas.  That tank is fairly small, so you want to be careful not to overstock it.

Cories prefer to live in groups with the same species, not just other cories.  The exact number of cories needed can be debated, but with such a small tank, it would be best to keep them all in one species, and it just so happens pandas stay fairly small - one of, if not the smallest, of the 'regular' cories (meaning non-dwarf variety).  Getting their number up to 5-6, plus adding a few more harlys (also a shoaling variety) will max out your stocking, plus a few.

Thanks

I have a second tank which currently has a male and female endler guppy, with 4 small fry (3 weeks old).  I need to sex these before putting the males into the bigger tank, so will hold back on more harleys until I know how many males I have to add (plus dad!)

Im not sure what to do with mum and any female babies yet ... I cant bare to watch them being eaten, especially as they have made their way in a community tank so far - they deserve a fighting chance!

I know if I put mum into the larger tank, there will be babies everywhere, plus she will be mobbed by any other guppy in the tank, and that's just cruel  (

I would suggest talking to your LFS, and see if you could swap them for more pandas?

How big is that other tank?

The other tank is small ... was my starter tank and holds 28 litres.  Currently home to mum, dad and 4 baby endlers only.  I got the larger tank with the idea of putting all my current fish into it, then had second thoughts about female guppies

Yeah, that's pretty small - what I'd call a "nano" tank.

It may be small, but it was enough to give me the tropical fish bug ... and it was only 3 weeks before I knew I wanted to go larger!  I may keep it for shrimp when the others leave home!

I'll be honest, it doesn't matter what size tank you start with, you will always want to get a bigger tank!

Or more if them.

Sorry, that should read "and more of them"
