Hi I have been keeping fish for coming up 6 months with the only death at fist being a danio who got wedged into the side of my filter.

tank 127l
filter fluval 4
using tetra water safe when changing

The fish from day 1 were..
4 leopard danios
then over time
6 platys
2 plecos
2 dwarf gouramis
4 neons
2 yamoto shrimps

3 neons died fairly close to each other but 1 stayed strong , I test the water reguarly and found no reason.
Then after a while I bought a male betta from pets at home which after a week developed a lump on his side and was dead 24 hours later. Once again no change in water stats so complained to pets at home who supplied me with another and I bout 2 females along with him, all dead within a week.
So i have been monitoring the water reguarly doing average of 20+ litre changes and a week ago the 3 danios died then 1 platy died.
Took a sample of my water to lfs and the test results are...

PH 8.0
GH 14 drops
KH 8 drops
Nh3 Nh4 0.0ml
No2 0.3mg/l
NO3 0.0mg/l
PO4 0.10mg/l
He recommended Sera Nitrivec to deal with the NO2 1 capful a day for 5 days and toxivec to use once a week.
My platys are showing signs of what looks like fin rot and clamped fins and 1 of my gouramis has a white dot on each eye but nowhere else on its body.
The plecos seem to be okay if a little more docile the neon seems fine and very colourful and 3 platy fry seem fine too.
I am treating with interpet fin rot mouth rot solution at the mo.
Any other suggestions would be welcome

John

You have nitrite in your water. You need to get rid of it by daily water changes - I suggest no less than 1/3 of your water per day until that reading is zero.

Nitrite (NO2) will kill your fish. Daft chemicals from your LFS will not help.

Get the water stats right, then deal with any other issues in the tank (most will clear up if you sort the water)

I know I have Nitrite in the water.
The results I have are a week old I have been changing the water during that week and after testing with the test sticks ( yes I know not brilliant but I have my eyes on a master test kit on ebay) the readings seem optimal now.

The fish seem to be the same or no worse/better the platys are sitting on the bottom apart from 1 who seems to be a little interested in feeding. The plecos also have mainly seethrough poo.
So the question is once the Nitrite is zero what should be the next step?
Thanks John

The lump on the betta didn it look hard or soft like filled with fluid, Did it look like a caulifower.
Was the lump internal or external.
White dots on eye can be whitespot to flukes.
The neons is there red stripe still vibrant.
Long stringy white poo can be constipation, bacterial infection, internal parasites.
What do you feed your fish.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.

Clear mucas poo can be internal parasites.

The lump on the betta didn it look hard or soft like filled with fluid, Did it look like a caulifower. No
Was the lump internal or external.internal on left side pushed scales out similar to dropsy

White dots on eye can be whitespot to flukes.I read about whitespot but can find no other signs amongst the fish for a week plus.
The neons is there red stripe still vibrant. Yes
Long stringy white poo can be constipation, bacterial infection, internal parasites.I assumed that and I do have some meds for teating but i do not want to overdose my tank as I am using the anti fin rot at the mo.
What do you feed your fish. flake and occasional bloodworm but i am going to try peas today

Any signs of flicking and rubbing.nope

Clear mucas poo can be internal parasites.

Thanks John

The white dots on the eyes are a concern. How long hs the fish had the white dots on the eye.Are they white dots or white specs. Are the spots inside the lens or outside.
Once you finished with the bacterial med I think I would worm your fish.
Best to worm fish anyway.
Try the peas anyway.
Whats your location.

The white dots are on the outer lense on one gourami he has had them for a week they are raised by a mm or so.
I have put him into the floating box to keep an eye on him.
Ok will do a worm next.
What about the platys clamped fins and tail shrinking which seems to have stopped? is that just something that time will show?
I live in kent/london.
Thanks John

Ok after a few water changes and chems the water stats seem fine, but within that time 2 platys died the gourami with the white dot died and 1 of my shrimps.

All i have now are
2 plecos (seem fine solid poo)
1 Platy (fins are not clamped but a little shorter)
1 shrimp (seems fine)
1 gourami (not sure about this one seems to be surfacing for air a lot)
1 neon tetra ( seems fine strong colours)

the palty and tetra seem to be very fast when food is put in is the only differance i notice.
Worming next.

R.I.P.
Any excess slime on the body or gills.
What do the fish gills look like.

In appearance the fish look fine apart from a little redness around the gills.
No excess slime lumps or bumps.

I was thinking at first your fish might have flukes but it hard to say with not having excellent water quality as red gills can be a sign of flukes but can also be caused by bad water quality.
