hey iv got a 5gal betta tank, normal gravel, heater silk plants. Its unfiltered at the moment as the filter i got for it is still running in on the main tank, the tank itself is cycled and i change water everyother day. I did a 25% water change last night and now the water is a little merky, its nothing dramatic just slightly off clear, its hard to tell its clody.

i got a free sample of tetra easy balance, its supposed to contain nitrate reducing granualls and reducde frequent waterchanges, i thought i would try it out, but iv had no problems with water quality untill i added this, and nothing new has been added for a while apart from this during last water change.

Any suggestions?

Tom

Tetra Easy balance will cloud the water temporarily until it fully disolves - probably anything up to 24 hours in a small tank, possibly longer without a filter.

Thanks ferris, i just made one of those improvised sponge filters pinned in the hardware area, is it a reliable product?

It probably has some merits but you can't beat water changes and it certainly isn't neccessary. I don't like anything that suggests you can avoid frequent water changes by adding chemicals - i'd rather just keep on top of the h2o.

yes that is true, chemicly i cant see how it can hold nitrate and eliminate it, i dont know only at a lvl chemistry so far :hyper:. Yeh i got a free pot with a new fishtank from lfs, just thought id try it, thanks for info

I've never tested it thoroughly. I got a big bottle of it free a couple of years ago with some purchase (i forget what) but i wouldn't risk letting my nitrates get high enough to test it properly - i'd just change the water.

Ferris what is this fish in your signiture please?
Could you have a look at my post in begineers questions and see what you think / If one would be suitable?

Many thanks

Not a chance i'm afraid :/ It's a Pseudotropheus Demasoni, an african cichlid from Lake Malawi. They are extremely aggressive and should only be kept in a species tank or with other highly aggressive Mbuna species.......sorry to dissapoint as they are stunning fish.

thanks for the help ferris, no i wouldnt have skipped on water changes just decided to add it because it was free :shout:
