I'd like a somewhat larger fish as a "centerpiece" for my 20g high. Would a male dwarf gourami be a good choice or do I really need a pair (m/f)? Are there any other suggestions that would go along with my current fish (please see signature for stocking)?

You can keep one on its own and it will be find. :good: Females are quite hard to find in LPS. I would up your numbers of neons, harlequins, and cories.

I'm running an Aquaclear 50 on my 20g tank, along with a bubble curtain. I normally do weekly 25% PWCs. Would I really be OK adding the additional neons, rasboras and cories?

IMO you should be fine if you add 3 harlequins and 1 neon, but I suggest you look for a different type of gourami that is the same size as a dwarf. Dwarfs are sensitive and are often sick when you get them IMO. A German Blue ram would also work good in your tank.

Dwarf gouramis are fine by themselves, especially in your tank. If you had a 10, I'd say otherwise, but I think yours will be a happy guy. :) If you can get females, they are less angry but not as colorful.

As for adding your other fish, you should be okay. The quick fish may spook him though, and cause him to be shy. Depends on the gourami. Some are tolerant, others are scaredy fish. :( I'd be willing to bet on him being fine.

I checked out the German blue rams. It seems that they are not easy keepers. Any other centerpiece fish come to mind? What about a regular size gourami?

A honey gourami might work, but I don't know much about them. I have never thought of German blue rams as hard to keep. They are easier than neons IMO. You could also go for a female betta.

then again, the amount of in-breeding incest doesnt exactly make neons easy either IME

bolivian rams is all i have to say.

I'd personally go for a couple of Honey Gouramis; Dwarfs are just too much of a risk, disease-wise, for me.

a single gourami would be fine, but i would be more inclined to go for a sparkling gourami or a trio of red honeys.

Would a single full size gourami be OK with my current stocking (see signature)? If so, what gourami is the most peaceful?

A single female would be OK, but why not add more corys to bring their school up to a better size?

Thanks. I do plan to add a couple more rasboras, neons and cories as well as the centerpiece fish. What gourami would you guys suggest as a single centerpiece fish?

Single dwarf gouramis are fine, personly i WOULDNT recommend blue rams as they should really be kept in groups (yes I have 1, thats a result of the death of the female), and a 20g HIGH may not give a large enough foot print for them to establish there breeding territory.

Id go for a small gourami (theres a few to choose from).
