Silicone Question

I set up my Trigon 190 tank about 1 month ago. Apart from filter not completely matured and the water being a bit poor things seem ok. However, after reading a few posts on silicone I'm a bit worried!!

I got some juwel structured background and siliconed it in the tank with clear silicone, I'm unsure if it had the anti-fungal ingredient in it that is harmful to fish and no longer have the tube it was in to check.

Will my fish be ok, would I have seen the effects by now if it was the wrong silicone or should I re-do the background with the correct silicone.

If you got it at the hardware store it might be worth redoing. You would see the affects in the filter, it might kill off the bacteria and cause it to have trouble cycling. Since I'm not sure how you are doing your cycle and if you seeded your filter or not, I can't really guess as to whether it should be already cycled after a month or not. I'm just guessing but I would think there may be some cancer-causing agent in there that wouldn't affect the filter but might give your fish problems in the future.

I recently had the same issue, with an old tank that my dad re-siliconed for me years and years ago, that has since been in storage. I specifically remember looking for something that did not mention any anti-mold or anti-mildew properties and said 100% silicone. However, when dad put it on for me, it was blue! I decided I would rather err on the safe side when I pulled it out to set it up again, and I cut out the questionable stuff and redid it. Aquarium safe silicone can be found in the pet store and also in the hardware store, labeled for aquariums. I'd reccommend getting something that actually says aquarium on it since I've had the experience with something that obviously had something besides silicone, even though it didn't mention it on the outside of the tube! The guy at the hardware store also said that not all silicone is rated for constant underwater use. He might have been just full of it but maybe not.
