Hi

Would a male Siamese Fighting Fish live happily with my current fish?

What are their tempemant like?

How would my Chinese algae eater be with the siamese fighter fish?

Any advice would be helpful.

Males shouldn't really be kept with other community fish although there are some that they are happy with. You might wanna ask this in the betta section of this forum.

Its all personality based. You could have a mean betta that will attack anything on site, or you can have a betta like mine which does great with community fish (rarely happens). Im very lucky as my betta doesnt even attack fish with long fins!

mine lives well with cardinal tetras and a sailfin plec and gouramis. i had silver/bala sharks and they went for his fins. pay attention when feeding, if hes going to get bitten it will be then! good luck!

Just so you know, the chinese algae eater, when fully grown will be very agressive and territorial. They will also like to attach themselves on to larger fish and eat their slime coating, and may damage the scales or even worse.

Hi Michelleuk :)

It's more than a matter of personality conflicts.

A 60 gallon tank probably isn't the best environment for a betta. If it has a HOB filter, or any other filter that causes much surface movement, it will be difficult for the betta to navigate. Since they are not natural fish that are used to swimming against a current, they will tire quickly and their lifespan is likely to be shortened.

It's much better for the fish, and not a lot of trouble, to keep the betta in a small tank of its own.

afishdude my beta has live with Danios for about a year and has never suffered tail nips

Gourami fan = My CAE is coming up to be two years old. When do they fully mature?

Thanks everyone for your responses. I wont be getting a betta.
