have 16 fish 1 siamese fighter,2 male guppies,,2 platys,2 siamese flying foxes,1 black ruby barb,2 clown loaches,2 bronze catfish ive just added 1 dwarf blood gurami and 3 male black swordtails ever since the fighter has been hiding are these fish suited as ive had the first lot for around 3mths with no probs its only as ive added new ones

1what size is this tank? 2Do you know what cycle means? 3 Are you aware that clown loaches grow huge and like to be in groups? 4Are you aware that siamese fighters will often fight with guppies and gouramis because they are so flashy? 5Do you use dechlorinator?

Bettas (siamese fighters) flashy tails look good to nibble to many normally passive fish. hes quite possibly being picked on by one or more of the other fish. gouramis and bettas are not good species to mix as they are closely related and silly little bettas sometimes get confused.

If you can, get the betta his own small tank, as long as you keep him warm and give him plants and a cave he will be happy on his own. if you cant, a short term solution may be using a large fry net to stop the other fish picking on him (just make sure its got a solid bottom, so his tail doesnt drap down into the tank to be nibbled). but this can only be used for a week or so because its just not fair to keep a fish that size in such a small area.

how big is your tank? sounds like youve got a lot of fish in it, it could also be overcrowed or the addition of the newest fish has caused a minicycle. both of which could be upsetting your betta.

i hope this helps

the tank is aqua one 320 .28litre with 16 small fish in

erk, yes you are MASSIVELY overcrowded love.
i have that same tank, it is home to one betta and that's IT, he dominates the whole tank, i would never stick anything else in there.

for all those fish you need at LEAST a 20 gallon (75 litre) to start with (personally would go with a 50 gallon to be on the safe side), with plans to upgrade as some of those fish grow big and some need larger groups, the clown loaches can grow to 12", the corys need to be in groups.
