Shy Discus

I just go 4 Tangerine Discus in from my LFS, and they seem to be really shy hiding in the back of my tank. Is there any way I can make them more comftorble, i have only got 1 to eat so far. What shall i do?

personally i would of asked to see them eat in the lfs but oh well.

the molly in the tank shouldn't be there by the way.

leave them be let them settle in, how long did you acclimatism them for?

have you got lot's of plants? how bright is your light? how big are they?

Hey there jayjay thanks for the reply. The mollies are all going to be gone soon since I am giving them to my cousin. I didn't acclimatise them, and I do have alot of plants and light. They are approxamitaley 2-2.5 inches which is bigger than anything else in the tank. The ph is 7.4 so I am trying to bring it down at the moment.

you bought discus but didn't acclimatise them....... i would be worried what sort of water were they in, at the lfs? how long in transportation?

you know the blue gourami will be aggressive? all 6 mollies leaving i hope?

turn the lights off and leave it for a few hours.

i dont kno much about discus but im pretty sure its 6 juvies per 55 gallon tank so you 60 with all those fish in and 4 discus is way way way overstocked.


then theres the fact that discus need excellent water quality and that will be hard to keep up with all those fish.

Dont worry the following fish are on their way out...

6 mollies
blue gourami

so im gonna be left with 7 gourami, 4 discus, 1 angel

EDIT: By the way the Temperature is 85 F, and the other fish seem fine with it.

probably a few more than that at 2 2.5" ish. in a 75G you can quite easily keep 15-20 but bear in midn they will need moving when they get bigger. i would however be aware of the size of the other fish in there as well.

k. i would still remove the Goruamis though... they can get a big nasty and would probably end up nipping the discus.....

just out of interest, what kind goruamis are they?

o yeah, and i found out how masty gouramis are when i put a betta in with them and went out for an hour.. came back and there was nothing left !
