Shrimp

i feed my fish live river shrimp every now and then and they cost about 10p each, but i was wondering if there were any freshwater shrimp that i could buy that would survive untill eaten for around the same price, as the river shrip only survive in fresh water for a little while

as much as i love my fish i dont want to pay for cherry shrimp or such like just for them to get eaten!

I think any shrimp that would surive in FW would be too expensive to be considered feeders (that I can think of anyway). There's the American glass shrimp and amazon glass shrimp, plus the macro's such as red claws. Though these I imagine would cost far more than glass shrimp.

Have you considered setting up a tank for RCS - they are easy to keep and breed. I originally intended to keep them to raise as feeders for my cichlids, however I suppose you could say I wimped out and didn't use them for this. Made much more economical sense to trade them in at the LFS where I get £1 for them . So for a 'meal' of say 20 cherry shrimp, I can instead get 5 large blister packs of bloodworm, or numerous packets of top end pellet food. If I want to give my fish a treat, I just spend 5 mins in the garden and get some worms.

You should set up a tank. They breed easily, and a small colony of 5-6 adult individuals initially will provide you with an big supply within a few weeks!

I had two 3 indivuals in my 8 litre planted tank initially (1 male, two female) and now i have around 20ish exluding the originals, and I lost a lot from jumping out the tank (it was rimless). The young ones just started bearing eggs, and, i think the majority of the remaining shrimp are female. I will have to start taking them home as feeders just to keep them in check in a couple of weeks.

With a bigger tank, and a couple of months you will have a large thriving community you can farm for feeders regularly

Depends on what they end up going for. Theres a few people on this forum who sell RCS.

They normally go for around 50p - £1 each (just looked in classified section - 3 sellers on first page). P+P will add to that if your not local. Though with the amount of RCS around these day's theres probably someone who is.
