Hey, i think my cherry shrimp are breeding, they are all sitting on top of my filter and my heater in a cluster, which hasnt happened before in my tank they are all very bright and happy (lots of algae and moss to chomp on).
when i bought them they were on special offer coz the shop had to many of them coz the were breeding and laying eggs into the filter. here is a picture of them, can somebody tell me if they are actualy breeding or they just like the filter :p. there is deffinatley some 'interaction' between some of the shrimps but i dont know if there are any obvious signs.

Cherry Shrimp are prolific breeders, and will breed practically anywhere.
They will be breeding at some point. Just let them get on with it!

hi, in the first pic, the shrimp on the left is full of eggs, so they are definitely in breeding condition.

cheers :good:

Looks like you've got some nice coloured cherries there. To be honest I'd be a bit concerned that they are all hanging around at the water surface though, that's not normal behaviour.

i think they just like the filter coz the shop i got them from siad they were laying eggs in their filter all the time, and if i shine a torch in mine you can see all the eggs in the top vent :D

i just got footage of one of the shrimps laying eggs into the filter, will post it in a min :D

I'm not sure what it is you're seeing but shrimp don't actually "lay" eggs, they carry them around to aerate them and then release the baby shrimp when they are fully formed. If the shrip are literally dropping eggs it is most probably a sign of stress, or something more seriously wrong with the water parameters (which would also explain them hanging around the water surface).

look at the video on that link thats my shrimp. see for yourself whats happening but there is deff eggs in the filter but i havnt seen her actualy drop eggs. she is shacking them around abit in a jerky motion, what does this mean ? she is also brushing them with limbs i think.

From what i can see in the video, shes not "laying" eggs just aerating them. But if you are sure you can see eggs in the filter then like Shred said she is dropping them due to stess. What are you water parameters like? Temp?
