In my brothers cichlid tank one of his Geophagus steindachneri is ill ...

Red spidery blotches covering operculum
Faint red line appearing along right side
Generally listless toward bottom of tank, moving only occationally
Rapid breathing
*he just recently noticed these symptoms*

Everyone else in the tank seems perfectly fine, water parameters are fine. No new additions or anything that could release any sort of toxin, bacteria, alter water chem, etc.

99% sure its Septicemia... should it be treated individually or the tank as a whole ???
(no inverts or scaleless fish that could be overly sensitive)
I'm in the US, so Maracyn and Maracyn 2?

Never dealt with this disease personally, just making sure theres nothing I missed.

Are there any blood spots on the fins or between the scales, or any scales lifting, coming off or bleeding? Those symptoms plus most of what you described is septicaemia, and it SHOULD respond to maracyn 1 + 2. Personally I would isolate a sick fish to treat especially with antibiotics. The overuse of antibiotics or their use when not necessary is a very bad thing for the hobby and for medicine in general, as all we do is create resistant strains of antibiotics. The sick fish definitely needs antibiotics ASAP.

It seemps odd though, usually septicaemia is extreme stress. Are there issues with bullying or territoriality in that tank?
