When a fish is refered to in it's profile as semi aggressive, is that the same for all fish. For examle the RTBS is refered to as semi aggressive, so is an Oscar. Does semi aggressive have the same meaning for these two fish. The reason I am asking is for stocking purposes. I have a few fish that are listed as semi aggressive and when I go to buy more should I expect the same aggression from other fish listed as semi aggressive?

Hope that question is clear, it is a little hard to put into words.

Thanks
-Nick

Give us your stocking ideas and you'll get a clearer answer as degrees of agressiveness, which in turn is relevent here only with the species you wish to keep in close proximity (i.e. aquarium conditions) to each other. Compatibility, I think is what you are looking for.

I think i know what you mean, the term IMO is a loose one that gives no accurate indication as to tankmates and problems possibly posed (poetic!) in the future. Not to mention the fact that different sources provide different information ie;
See angelfish on this post are peaceful http://www.peteducation.com/category_summa...16&cat=1942
Wheras here they are semi-aggressive http://www.diveintofish.com/angelfish2.htm
The terminology used (particularly) on the internet holds no merit and isn't really worth making judgements on without researching each individual fish.

BigC,

That's the thing, I really don't know yet what I want to get. I just know that I don't want to lose all my other fish. I have some rough ideas. You can see my current stocking in my sig. I want to get some "Bright colored" fish for my 60 gallon, so i figured cichlids were the most colorful. I already know about the ID shark issues and I'm working on it. Some things can be rearranged with the other fish if necessary and I also have an empty 29 gallon that I am not using if it were to be needed. Basically my question is what cichlids can I add to the 60 that are colorful (specifically yellow) that will have a decent temperment along the lines of the RTBS. I have also read that Clown loaches "get along" with cichlids, so my main concerns are the other fish.

Thanks for the reply BigC,

-Nick

I figured that. Thanks. I'm pretty much just looking for "IMO"'s right now. I know that I have had some African butterfly's that I would consider docile and others that were just ravenous. Same with GSP's. Thanks for the input. I love thisboard and all the quick responses I always get. Hope to be able to give some answers some day instead of always just asking questions.

I'd be looking for dwarf cichlids (i.e. Apistogrammas) rather than larger cichlid species. There is a nice yellow form of A. agassizi available within the hobby.

Loach people tend to not advise putting loaches with cichlids (specifically Mbuna). Loaches are soft water species and Mbuna are very hard water species.

You shouldn't really have much problem with peaceful South American cichlids and loaches though.
