Sand?

all fish can live on any ph as long as the ph is stable. Also, some freshwaterfish can live on that ph.

I doubt that sand is suitable unless you're running an African cichlid or brackish setup. Also, I wouldn't bother getting sand from there anyway at those prices. I bought a couple of big bags of Silver Sand from homebase for a lot less £££s.

Yes but it's nowhere near ideal, you are much more likely to have problems if you are keeping things like tetras and angels in hard alkaline water.
And not all fish are realistically going to be able to adapt to such a high pH.
To the OP, just buy play sand - it's inert (wont effect your water) and is much cheaper.

If you're going for african cichlids or maybe hard water loving rainbowfish, or something else that needs a pH near 8, it'll work. That sand will naturally buffer the water and raise the pH.

Otherwise, get a cheaper sand that's inert. You'll save $$ and the fish will be happier.

I cannot find any sand that will work... i see lot's of people with fish i have with sand... what kind of sand do they use?????

im sry I must be dense,(actually am really smart tho) where would i get the play sand? store? orwhere people get it to build sand bozes and stuff, lol....

wilko , argos for a few examples

its usually cheaper than gravel and looks better 2 :good:

I got my play sand from Home Depot. It'll need lots of rinsing to clear up. You can also try pool filter sand from a pool supplies shop.

hardware stores or landscaping stores/nurseries

Stick with sands that they are suited for.

Saltwater sands buffer your water. pH levels are very important and you water needs to stay in the perfered zone.

Freshwater sand is a bit harder to get ahold of. Play sand works, but you need to rinse it for HOURS. Pool sand rocks, but i personally like the looks of play sand.
