Thanks

I haven't done it myself, but here people say just lightly swirl your gravel vac a few cm above the sand. This will create a mini whirpool and bring the gunk up.

take out the big vacuum head and use the tube and twirl it 1/2 from the sand :good:

I just hover it above the sand, occasionally swirling it to get stuff to float up that's lighter than the sand. Nearly everything you need to suck up (leftover food, fish poop, small bits of wood from bogwood, etc.) is lighter than the sand itself and usually comes up easy.

I do have some new white sand however that is feather light so I have to use a net to scoop out stuff off the bottom and then suck up anything floating with the siphon. May take more time than even normal sand but the look is IMO worth it.

If your asking on how to use one, this is what you do:

Since the siphoning does work with gravity, fill the whole siphon up with water and make sure to plug the end of the tube with ur thumb or else the water will come out the other end. Also, if the tube and you see a space at the end loosen ur thumb to let out the air. Then you get your handy dandy bucket ready beside ur tank and this is the hard-ish part. You have to put the tube inside the tank at the same time u let your thumb off the other end. I know I suck so much at giving instructions but hope this helps :good: , You can practice doing this in ur sink  . I remember the person who helped me with it, Inchworm :D

To start the siphon I turn the siphon up at around a 45 degree angle, lift it up out of the water and then sink it back in once it starts to drain and right it so it's facing down. The siphon won't stop until the seal is broken, either by lifting it out of the water or until the water level is so low it can't maintain the pressure, basically, when the tank is nearly empty.
