i had sand in my tanks before but i didnt like it much i changed over to gravel now ive decided that looks worse i wanted it to look more natural i spent alot of money on sand the 1st time what other sands are safe for the fish and at a decent price ,, thanks -_-

Playsand from Argos or B & Q is cheap but you need to rinse it several times before you put it in your tank.

what about the sand they sale at persmart for reptiles. would this be ok?

will be use'n some black sand on a cichlid tank and some play sand from toys r us in a 120g community tank

I thought that sand for aquariums was of the gentle kind - i.e. rounded granuals. Other types of sand can be angular (can't think of a better word) and is not as gentle on the fish.

Dunno, just alarm bells are going off in the back of my mind for some reason.

I may be spouting utter bollocks of course.........

I've used pool sand for years with Cories and they've had no problems. Same can be said of playsand though some sand types like that used in sandblasting or those made from some other sources aren't safe.
