Probably three of my favorite fish, the only ones I currently own being the gudgeons. If you're curious to how I'm obtaining the gouramis I'll put it short by saying I know somebody who works at a lfs who has a friend who has a friend that works at a museum, And he said he could hook me up. I post this because I'm not sure how many of each I should have, and if they would be fine together as far as aggression goes. I have a pair of gudgeons, and the number of gouramis is 4, maybe less but definetly no more. The number of scarlet badis is up in the air, and I'm not too sure on how many I should be getting. The tank I want them to be in is a 10g, but I realize more realistically I should get another 20 gallon.. So for stocking this is what it'd be
2 gudgeons
2-4 samurai gouramis (4 unless there's some reason that prevents otherwise)
And ????? Scarlet badis

The tank they'll be going into will be HEAVILY planted with probably just a regular sponge filter. I might get a canister filter, thoughts on that would be appreciated :).

Also, is there an "ideal" temperature I should shoot for? I've been keeping the water at about 78 and the gudgeons are thriving. The ph is what I'm most concerned about though, I know that the samurai gouramis live in very acidic water and with peat I can achieve 6.5, which is low for gudgeons. I'm hoping the gouramis will be fine with this? Anyways, thanks for the feedback (hopefully).

You seem to have a fondness for fish with vertical stripes. :p

You'll be overstocking the tank with just the 4 samurai gourami's as they grow to be 3" long. They'll probably be fine with that pH.

With the badis, you should probably try to go for more females than males, maybe 1:3 or 1:2. They're not aggressive and they're pretty shy, they may hide from the gourami. It's on the low end for pH for them, but they should be fine as well. This species is a pretty picky eater as well with not being very aggressive for food with other fish. The only thing is, is that you'll be pretty overstocked already, so you probably shouldn't consider anymore fish.

Where are you keeping the gudgeon fry? :p

Sadly, I'm not :(. They're eaten, and the one batch that I successfully raised I had to give away since I don't really have the room. The 10g with all these fish I realize is not a good option, as with just a few fish and shrimp it's already looking crowded. I'll probably give away the ten gallon, replace with a 20-30 (whatever I can get a deal on) and then go from there. So this is what I'd be looking at.

4 gouramis
2 gudgeons
4 badis

I also forgot to mention the 10g also has shrimp in it, which surprisingly don't get eaten, and I'm hoping the gouramis will leave them alone too. I'd move them back to the 2.5, but I can't for at least a few weeks as I'm housing a friends dwarf puffer until his tank is reset up.

I hadn't really thought about the stripes, but I guess I am fond of that ;p thanks for the advice.
Also forgot to say I'll be getting the gouramis in a week and a half.

Maybe hold off on the badis until you get the upgraded tank? You could have maybe 6 in the 20g but still try to get more females than males.

My gourami (opaline) don't mind shrimps. They're too lazy to go after the shrimplets but the badis and gudgeons will certainly have at them.

Actually my gudgeons only go for crystal reds, they leave the cherrys alone. On second thought they might just be reproducing faster than they can handle.

I saw one of mine attack and eat one of my cherries so I quickly put her in a different tank.
