i made a little homemade vacuum tube. my tank is taller, so i needed something to straigten the last foot of it. so i cut a plastic clothes hanger bottom and have attached it along the tube with 4 little rubber bands.

it works perfectly, but my question is, can rubber bands leech anything bad into the water? i mean, they are only in there for 2-3 minutes at a time. once or twice every two weeks for siphoning up poop or water changes.

couldn't think of anything more ideal to attach the hanger piece to the tube with.

I've used them before without any problems.

My local garden centre/lfs sells ridgid plactic tubing in various diameters. I got a couple of different sizes to fit my 6mm & 10mm syphon tube. The thin one is ideal for fry tank as suction is low reducing the risk of syphoning them out.

About £2 per meter length.
