Roots growing from stems

my amazon sword has grown a long stem and there are baby plants growing off it, complete with roots

maybe your plant is about to reproduce?

A lot of "stem" plants have roots coming from the stems. Nothing to worry about at all. Noop, what you are describing is a "runner" and is typical of many "rosette" plants.

will the baby plants drop off the stem on their own or will they remain there until i cut them?

I suppose ultimately the runner would decay, but normally, you remove and resite the plants where you want them when they are large enough to handle.

Runners are produced by plants that reproduce A sexually. The runnners can be cut and the new plant moved as soon as it has its own root and leaf system allowing it to take up nutrients and photosynthesis.

:fish: These roots often form on stem plants, you can remove them if you want with a pair of sharp scissors. They will add to the good bacterial count in your tank though as they are absolutely covered in them. :D
If the plant gets damaged it will often partially replant itself by rooting these extra roots :D

so to remove a baby plant from the runner you cut the stem of the runner, just below the baby plant?
